History (Canon)

Basically, there was nothing particulary odd about Risa Koizumi's life. She was a high school student, living in Osaka, who like a normal teenage girl, loved to have fun with her friends. The one drawback: her HEIGHT!

Tallest in her class at 5'8 (172cm), she feels like a slight outcast amongst the shorter and cuter girls in class. What makes it worse is that she is constantly getting into fights with Atsushi Otani, the shortest guy in her year group, only 5'1 (156cm), who irritates her beyond belief. Due to their behaviour they are classes by the entire school as "All Hanshin-Kyojin" a Japanese comedy duo with a similiar height difference.

Things go from bad to worse for Risa when she discovers after many amusing events how much she and Otani have in common, and of course, falls in love. At first she is far too nervous about their height complexes to tell him how she feels, but eventually she confesses to him on her 17th birthday while they watch the summer fireworks. Unfortunately, Otani thinks she was making a joke, and laughs off her confession, leaving Risa devastated.

Her anger and bitterness showing, Otani finally goes to Risa and askes why she was upset, leading to her telling him once again she loves him. Finally realising the truth, he asks for time to think things over, before finally rejecting her on a class trip to Hokkaido.

Though upset, after meeting her and Otani's singing idol Omibozu and his family, Risa resolves to keep trying to win Otani over. After more comic mishaps, they do kiss. The only problem: Otani had a fever at the time and completely forgot what he did the next day, once again causing Risa to be infuriated with him. She later find out when Otani remembers what happened, that in actuallity he was only reaching over to take a grain of rice out of her hair, fainted while leaning over due to the fever an accidentally bumping her lips on the way down.

This proves to be the final straw, and after pulling him up by the collar to kiss him, Risa screams she's through loving him, before rushing off, completely heartbroken.

After returning from the City, she develops an admiring crush on the new teacher Maity-sensei, much to Otani's disapproval, though he still says he doesn't like the amazon. Eventually the midget snaps at the new teacher, telling him off by declaring he's the one Risa likes, as she takes him home on a school bike sinc ehe had an injured ankle. He eventually tells her not to give up, inspiring Risa to cheer especially hard for Otani in his big basketball game. However when Otani gets scared of the opponents the team are facing, Risa punches him for acting like a coward. This bring him to his senses, so he decides to fight hard in the match. Afterward, he admits to a sleeping Koizumi he's no good without her.

Risa, unaware of the confession, gets a nice surprise on her birthday when Otani buys her a special gift as they watch the fireworks, much like her previous birthday. The difference this time though, is that Otani knows how Risa feels, and kisses her. There was some confusion since they shared no words after it, but Atsushi eventually admits he wouldn't do such things with a girl he didn't like, saying he loves her, and even calling her his girlfriend while they are out on their first date and they run into Otani's ex.

More problems arise though when Otani's next door neighbour Mimi, a midschool student model who shares both Risa's height and love for Otani threatens the girl, furious that she 'stole' 'At-chan'. Mimi had been holding back because of her height, being sickly sweet to him (when really she's a very spiteful person) and giving him milk to help him grow taller, so is furious that a tall girl has snapped Otani up. She even goes out with the two to try and win Otani over, but gets huffy and wants to leave when she sees how much fun Risa and Atsushi are having. Risa punches her for this, saying she could never give Otani up to a quitter, especially when she tried so hard to win him. Mimi soon realizes she can't compete, and backs off, leaving Otani and Risa to go home together, hand in hand, with Atsushi stealing a kiss by standing on one of the higher steps to reach Risa.

The next issue arises when Otani opts to study to go to college in order to become a teacher, meaning her has little time to spend with his tall girlfriend. Risa takes a job at the restaurant across the street from Otani's cram school to be near him and let them walk home together, while meeting a young boy named Kohori who works in the kitchen, a short boy who also loves Umibouzo. He develops a crush on Risa, attempting to kiss her when she falls asleep at work, which Otani sees. Risa manages to explain what happened, but is warned she shouldn't go around Kohori, knowing how he feels.

Sadly, when Kohori asks Risa to go to an Unibouzo concert, the temptation is too great. Otani catches them on the way home, and feeling angry and betrayed, he breaks up with Risa. Just as she called out to him, she ends up back in the City.

History (City)

Though off to a bumpy start (not recalling being there before mainly, but being told she had been by Greed) and not sure what she should do, Risa is finding a place for herself in the City, making great friends and a life for herself.

She is living in Apartment 12 in Building 5, and after quitting a boring NPC job with a scary boss, she opened her own little clothes and accessories shop, Akindo. She currently works there most days with Chidori (her reliable business partner who takes care of all the complicated maths/money matters, who also stays with her) Miwako, (a fellow fashion enthusiast who helps with consulting and designing) and Horohoro (a good friend who she trusts very much). Not to mention having A.B.A, the timid girl with a key for a fiancee hiding her back shop some days.

Also, she has been venting a little on what happened before she came to the City. However, she is not letting go of Otani, as he told her during the fourth wall break curse to wait for him, and she will, unable to give up on loving him. Though her determination wavered when she was affected by the Mirror City curse, Chidori snapped her out of it, and convinced her to keep holding on. She loves Otani, and is going to wait for him in the City, no matter how long it takes.

And it seems her determination paid off, as after briefly seeing him during the New Places Old Faces curse, Otani appeared in the City, this time for longer than one day. Being from a further point in time, he tells her that they do end up dating, which confuses Risa greatly. Both of them want to try and sort things out, but getting Otani to talk about how he feels about Risa, and what happened between them, will be a challenge, especially when adding curses and overprotective friends into the mix.

However, after Otani explaining what happened between them, Risa realizes he was jealous over her attention towards Mighty-sensei, and with a lot of teasing, gets him to admit he loves her back. Overjoyed, they decide they will both make an effort to make the relationship work. They managed to go on their first date to the amusement park successfully (though there was a slight bump with Risa accidentally making her filter about the date public to the whole network) and shows their relationship can only get better.

There was a rough bump in the road when they were both sent home for a few days, and returned from a similiar point in canon, only to have broken up due to Risa going out with Kohori from her work. He refused to talk to her, much to her dismay, leading to Risa disappearing on her birthday to get space. Otani found her at the amusement park where they had their first City date, where she gives him a gift to say goodbye and officially end their relationship. However, seeing how much she cares for him, Otani realizes he can trust her, and likes her more than he thought, telling her he loves her and wants to stay together. And thus, the love-love couple get back on track!

This happiness was sadly shortlived, as Otani disappeared from the City again, his name in the Hall of the Missing. Risa was upset, did her best to hold things together in front of everyone, struggling on the inside that she and Otani were apart again. She also lost Miwako and Chidori, and even Sousuke, but she carried on. Currently, she has found new employee's and friends in Peony and Watanuki, has made new friends like Youko, and her pet turtle At-Chan, cherishes the old memories, and hopes to see her midget again.
